I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for the first time in a while a week or two ago. Well, I just got the call from the new inde shop and for the first time in so many visits to to a mechanic, it was less than I expected! $1000 all in! The shop is over an hour away, but getting away from “Mainline” prices makes it worth it. I’m thinking I’ll burn the money I “saved” on converting the 02 over to an electronic ignition.

I can’t pick it up until Monday because I’m headed to the Catskills for a bachelor party tomorrow, so here is a pic of my (Same wheels and all!)

Apologies to anyone I fooled with my headline. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Independent shops are far more honest than dealerships and franchise shops from my experience.

The only problem I run into with the indie shop I use is they just pick up parts from BMW.  Which I guess I would prefer, but it would be even better if they had a source for OEM parts.  So I wind up saving some on the labor but not on the parts.

The independent shops have always given me choices for parts. For certain jobs they may say. “I won’t use an aftermarket part for this”. Other things they will offer to rebuild or go aftermarket if they have a part that they trust.

I agree that a direct source would be best. For me however, the labor is the kicker. Dealers near me are $160-$190 per hour. Most local inde shops are at least $130 per hour. I’m not sure what this new place is but I’d guess around $100 per hour.
